ASSOCIATE SPOTLIGHT SERIES: AN INTERVIEW WITH LLUVIA JIMENEZ-COPLIN

October 24, 2023

In our Associate Spotlight series, we are highlighting associates across the company who are shaping our community and who embody our Centric Brands philosophy every day.

Meet Lluvia Jimenez-Coplin, Graphic Artist, Kids Division at Centric Brands. In her interview, Lluvia discusses how she acquired a sense of resilience and adaptability throughout her career as an immigrant in a new country and her appreciation for Centric’s inclusive and welcoming workplace culture.

How did you become passionate about your career choice/this career path?

Since childhood, I’ve had a profound passion for art, particularly my fascination with graphic t-shirt designs. Surprisingly, my journey into becoming a graphic artist was somewhat serendipitous. In high school, I found myself excelling in creating posters and banners for various events, and I even contributed to the design of t-shirts for my senior class. Little did I know that these creative pursuits would eventually lead me to the world of designing graphics and prints for children’s clothing.

From the beginning of my career, I have had the privilege of learning from a diverse array of exceptionally diligent and talented individuals, ranging from bosses and managers to fellow designers and artists. They all share a profound passion for fashion, art, and innovation. Being a part of such a diverse group, each with unique backgrounds and expertise, has played a pivotal role in sustaining my passion for this industry. My manager, Kathleen Cedeno, has been an unwavering pillar of support and encouragement. Her dedication to discovering innovative ways to elevate our team’s work has been inspiring.

What have been some of the most important lessons you’ve learned throughout your career?

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is the importance of resilience and adaptability. As an immigrant woman in a foreign land, I’ve encountered the inevitable challenges of adapting to a new culture and language. These life experiences have instilled in me the belief that I shouldn’t merely acknowledge change; instead, I should embrace it. Additionally, setbacks have become valuable sources of wisdom, enlightening me about the significance of flexibility and the courage to persevere and try something new.

What do you enjoy most about working here?

What I find most fulfilling about my experience at Centric Brands is the distinct workplace culture it fosters. Its emphasis on inclusivity and unwavering commitment to upholding core values resonates deeply with me. Being a Latina, I take immense pride in being a part of UNiDOS. This exceptional group shares common ground and collaborates on exciting projects and cultural initiatives that bring joy to all involved.

I’m genuinely grateful for everything that Centric Brands offers its employees, including programs and educational opportunities to facilitate professional development. I’ve benefited considerably from LinkedIn Learning and the McKinsey leadership program I’m currently enrolled in. The company’s flexibility and prioritization of work-life balance allows me to maintain a healthy personal life, which is a significant benefit.
