CELEBRATING NATIONAL LATINX HERITAGE MONTH

October 12, 2021

National Latinx Heritage Month recognizes the culture, history and contributions of Latinx Americans who have inspired and influenced American society.

At Centric Brands, we are celebrating National Latinx Heritage Month by honoring Latinx individuals from our community, and the greater fashion industry, who have made and continue to make significant invaluable contributions to society. To kick off October, we hosted a Latinx Heritage panel to discuss representation in fashion and the Latinx experience in the workplace. Attended by over 100 associates, the event featured Centric Brands’ associates from New York City, Los Angeles and Greensboro and dove deep into the language, culture and identity of being Latinx in America today.

The origins of this observance began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage week under President Lyndon B. Johnson. In 1988, the week was then expanded to a 31-day period between September 15th and October 15th after Representative Esteban E. Torres of California proposed expanding the observance to allot more time to coordinate events that celebrate Latinx achievements.

The timing of Hispanic Heritage Month coincides with the Independence Days of several Latin American nations. September 15th is the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. September 16th is the anniversary of independence of Mexico and September 18th is the anniversary of independence of Chile.
