Introducing Creators For A Cause, an internal Centric Cares product series that showcases Centric Brands’ pride of creation culture in support of timely issues. Creators within Centric Brands design limited-edition products available for purchase each month, exclusively by Centric Brands associates. All proceeds from Creators For A Cause are donated to a Centric Cares partner organization connected to the issue the product was inspired by.

In honor of Earth Day, Herta Silva, VP, Creative Director, Marketing and Grace Martin, Graphic Designer, Marketing, designed and sewed handmade stuffed animals made out of dead-stock denim. Each animal is one-of-a-kind and represents denim’s circular journey in the fashion industry. We interviewed the designers to learn more about the inspiration behind their designs.

What was your inspiration behind the design?

The material itself was such an inspiration – having the recycled deadstock denim as a blank canvas was an amazing medium to work with. We both love creating things, especially handmade crafts like this, so ideas were flowing right from the start. We both have experience sewing and creating creatures from scrap fabric. The denim offered its own unique challenges – but with that it gave us the opportunity to get even more creative. We think the end result came out really great!

What does supporting causes mean to you?

As a large company, Centric Brands has a responsibility to be a part of conservation efforts to preserve & restore our planet. It is extremely important to us that we do our part to support sustainability efforts, especially on Earth Day, but also all year round.

What does the cause benefitting from the product mean to you?

I think it’s every artist’s dream to see their work have an important, life-altering impact on the world. The Nature Conservancy is such a great cause, and we’re so happy to tell people that 100% of proceeds from sales are going to the organization. There is so much power when you combine creative people, great materials, and a supportive company.
