IN SERVICE OF THE DREAM: HONORING MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY & BLACK HISTORY MONTH
February 29, 2024

As Black History Month comes to a close, we reflect on the events and initiatives that have brought Centric associates together as a community over the past month. February has been a time of celebration, education, and empowerment, and we’re proud to share some highlights of what we’ve accomplished together.
The below initiatives were organized in partnership with RISE (Representation. Inclusion. Support. Empowerment) and WIN (Women Initiative Network) Employee Resource Groups and Centric Cares:
- Groove Monday: A virtual music streaming event celebrating over 50 years of Hip Hop with a curated DJ mix of old-school classics spotlighting African American artists.
- Black History and Culture Trivia: In partnership with Confetti, RISE hosted a virtual trivia game on Black history and culture. Topics ranged from African American inventors and innovators to historical events, movies, music, TV, and more.
- A conversation with Constance White – Three Black Women Who Changed the World of Fashion: RISE and WIN led an in-person and virtual talk with award-winning journalist, fashion editor, and educator Constance White on three trailblazing Black women who revolutionized the fashion industry. An inspiring presentation of fashion, heritage, and empowerment.
- Giving Campaign: Centric Cares announced the launch of a special giving campaign that kicked off on MLK Day and ran through the end of Black History Month. Each organization was selected by RISE with a mission to uplift, educate and empower, and promote racial justice.
- RISE Bookmark Decorating: In partnership with Katheryn Byrnes, Associate, Supply Chain Operations at Centric Brands, Centric Cares organized a custom bookmark decorating event in honor of Black History Month and Martin Luther King Jr.’s commitment to civic service and education, to be donated to local literacy organizations.
- DE&I Book Club: In honor of Black History Month, the DE&I Book Club selected to read Black Cake, by Charmaine Wilkerson, and purchased all books from Urban Reader Bookstore, a Black-woman-owned bookstore specializing in African American books to celebrate their rich and diverse voices.
At Centric Brands, we understand the importance of celebrating diversity, recognizing the contributions of Black individuals, and striving for a more inclusive and equitable future. Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion remains steadfast year-round.
