TEAM SPOTLIGHT SERIES: INSIDE CENTRIC’S DESIGN OPERATIONS TEAM, KIDS DIVISION

October 16, 2024

In our Team Spotlight series, we are highlighting teams across the company who are leading operational transformation, business innovation, and embody Centric philosophy every day.

Centric’s Design Operations team, Kids Division is essential in managing the intricacies of our kids’ garment production process. From overseeing the Bill of Materials (BOM) to ensuring the precision of graphic designs, the team upholds consistency across all our licensed kids brands.

Members from the team, Brandon Bedevian, Associate Graphic Designer, Kids, Colleen (Coco) Doig, Senior Final Artist, Kids and David Vaden, Assistant Technical Designer, Kids share how they uphold the highest standards of quality and consistency in every garment produced by Centric.

The Team

David Vaden plays a crucial role in the Design Operations team for Kids. As an Assistant Technical Designer, he focuses on the technical aspects of garment production. He manages the Bill of Materials (BOM), which details every component needed to manufacture a product, from raw materials to parts and assemblies. Additionally, David is responsible for creating and maintaining the black-and-white pages that outline the garment’s structure.

Brandon Bedevian, Associate Graphic Designer, collaborates closely with Senior Final Artist Coco Doig to bring the design team’s visions to life. His role involves ensuring accurate sizing, maintaining color integrity, and overseeing the proper application of art techniques. As a member of the Design Operations team, Brandon centralizes information through the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system to prevent inconsistencies that could disrupt production.

Coco Doig, Senior Final Artist, brings extensive experience and expertise to the team. Since joining in 2020, she has been instrumental in standardizing the technical framework across various kids’ brands, enhancing efficiency and consistency for major labels including The Gap, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, and Under Armour.

Their Work

One of the team’s most significant recent achievements is the transition and introduction of new brands, Billabong, Roxy, and Quiksilver. Over the past few months, through dedication and collaborative efforts, the team has successfully operated with less external checks, consistently maintained exceptional standards of accuracy, and developed new guidelines to integrate these brands into their workflow.

Similarly, the team applied their adaptability and innovative mindset to the launch of Gap Kids. By leveraging their established processes and remaining open to fresh strategies tailored to the brand’s unique requirements, they ensured a successful and seamless integration into the portfolio.

A critical element of the team’s success has been their effective use of the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. This platform consolidates all design and production data into one centralized location, allowing the team to efficiently manage and synchronize every aspect of production—from materials to artwork—ensuring smooth and consistent information flow across global teams.

Fostering Creativity and Collaboration

The team benefits from a positive and supportive work environment where each member contributes unique strengths. Brandon brings a lively touch to the office with daily trivia questions, while Coco finds excitement in seeing new artwork created by the talented design teams and graphic artists. David, on the other hand, takes pride in the technical work that fuels the creative process.

Recently, Brandon launched an Olympic Challenge, which aimed to boost team engagement and creativity. Team members were invited to design outfits for countries participating in the Olympics. Nine participants used a random country generator to select their nations and then created tops and bottoms for their assigned countries.

This event provided a fun, hands-on opportunity to showcase design skills while fostering stronger relationships among colleagues. It highlighted the team’s creative talents and underscored the value of collaborative, engaging activities in the workplace. Throughout the week, Centric associates visited to vote on designs and share feedback, sparking thoughtful discussions and further strengthening team connections.
